Broos Institute

Our Name and legacy

The Broos Institute is named after Kapiten Broos (Babel), a Maroon leader of resistance and renewal. His rare surviving photograph stands as one of the few visual bridges to a history of defiance, freedom, and cultural dignity.

By carrying his name, we honor that legacy and commit ourselves to building academic spaces in Europe that are Afrocentric, inclusive, and transformative. Here, learners are not only invited to study African thought, but to think from it and live within it.
